Let's legislate the country to safety!

I often wonder at the amazing ability we have as humans to rationalize our beliefs and actions. But this seems to increase exponentially with the number of humans banded together. A single person might believe that drinking alcohol is wrong, without any major consequences. However, when lots of people who believe alcohol is wrong band together, then we have an organized voice proclaiming the evil results of alcohol abuse and why it needs to be banned! The result? Lots of criminals getting rich, people risking jail time to sip their favorite beverage, and people dying because of something that was intended to save them.

The recent court case in Texas over polygamy seems yet another banding together of several people with a belief in the immorality of joining more than two people in marriage. Now, there are allegations of child abuse and such things I am an adamant believer in opposing and keeping as criminal acts. No child deserves to be abused by anyone, let alone one's parents. But let's go after these people because they mistreat the children not because they have made a decision to live a lifestyle that does not fit in with our version of how 'it should be'.
